Council Meeting Highlights

September 2005

* Pastor informed the council that we will again have a seminary student, Cathy Rohrs. We look forward to her joining us in the near future.

* Finance committee representative advised of a late year disbursement from the Bretz Fund.  They recommended that $1,500.00 be allocated for the Zion Lutheran Youth Group’s (ZLYG) trip to the ELCA National Youth Gathering in San Antonio, Texas.  Another $500.00 to be allocated to the Social Ministry Committee to promote additional outreach in the community.  Council approved the allocation.

* Social Ministry Committee (SMC) Chair acknowledged the generous contribution of $500.00 and advised that the committee had planned to send some donation to the Lutheran Disaster Response for Hurricane Katrina.  The Finance Committee’s recommendation for the SMC disbursement will greatly enhance SMC ability to initiate an effective disaster response outreach on behalf of the entire congregation.

* Council approved three fundraiser requests for ZLYG for the San Antonio trip.  Congregation is encouraged to support the Wolfgang candy sale, 2 year calendar planner, and Subs.

* Council continued discussion on an insurance appraisal for our church facilities (church, office, cemetery house, fine arts-stained glass windows).  One bid was secured and a second will be sought.

* Council viewed a preliminary 2006 budget and Committee Liaisons were advised to notify their Committees to submit their 2006 budget request to the Finance Committee by Saturday, October 15, 2006.

* Alvin Bock, Treasurer and Nancy Myers, Assistant Treasurer advised Council that they will be resigning their duties in the near future.  Any congregant interested in being the Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer should advise President Doug Fry or Pastor Gwenn.
