Council Meeting Highlights
February 14, 2005
Approved the use of the building for two weddings: October 1, 2005, Terri Shutika and Daniel Underkoffler; and Saturday, July 23, 2005, Paula Rhodes and Shawn Kolish (non-members).
Accepted with regret the resignation from Council of Richard Martin. A vacancy on Council now exists.
Christian education committee reported that Sara Schmehl and Bonnie Meisel will be co-chairing Vacation Bible School for this year.
Approved letters being sent to the 19 members regarding inactivity.
Discussed what to do with the 2005 offering envelopes that have not been picked up to date. It was agreed that they will be given to the Evangelism committee to make a phone call and/or visit the person and deliver the envelopes.
Approved the Memorial committee recommendation to purchase oil-filled candles to replace the wax candles in the pew candle holders, at a cost of $600.
Property committee is requesting volunteers for an inside general work session scheduled for Saturday, April 2 at 8:00 am. Breakfast at the Summerdale Diner at 7:00 am.
Approved John and Linda Frymire to represent Zion at the Synod Assembly on June 10-11.
Approved the use of the church fellowship hall on Feb. 24 and 25 for Cub Scout Troop 89's annual Blue and Gold banquet.
Approved the used of the church fellowship hall on Feb 26 for the Boy Scouts Troop 89 to use for their spaghetti dinner fund-raiser from 4 - 7 pm
Approved the Boy Scout Troop 89 request to move their meetings to Monday nights in the church fellowship hall.
Alvin Bock III, Treasurer advised Council that for personal issues he may not be able to continue with his duties.
Approved the Property committee proposal to replace/repair the roof, as well as the funding plan for such. A March 13 Congregational meeting will be held for a vote. The congregation will receive a letter detailing this proposal.
April 24, 2005 has been set as an initial meeting regarding long range planning. Pastors Paul Gaussman and Dione Klepetka have agreed to serve as our mission consultants. They will work initially with Council and Mutual Ministry committee.
Sunday, April 17 from 1-4 pm, the Enola Historical Society (Jim Schmick) is offering tours of our cemetery. They have invited us to have the church open for people interested in viewing our sanctuary and our stained glass windows. Pastor Gwenn will ask Patt Saxton to coordinate volunteers. Anyone having any written literature or history on our beautiful windows, please contact Pastor Gwenn.
We are continuing to seek to fill our Church Secretary position.
Women of Zion have prepared a written funeral reception/luncheon policy. This policy will be included in the funeral policies and facility guidelines/policies currently being developed.
Approve a recommendation from the Finance committee regarding an additional distribution from the Bretz Fund. It was agreed that $2,000 will be placed in this year's budget for confirmation camp.
Alvin Bock III reported that the Estate of Sara Murray bequeathed a monetary gift to the church. Council voted to place the monies in the building fund.
